Projects
The projects by CMU CREATE Lab exemplify a dedication to utilizing technology and collaboration to tackle societal concerns and promote various initiatives, including environmental awareness, enhancing classroom learning, fostering emotional well-being in children, and visualizing global and local narratives
ClimateTRACE
As members of the ClimateTRACE coalition, the CREATE Lab developed the pollution plumes tool to visualize a day’s worth of air pollution from over 9,500 of the world’s ‘super emitters’ located in over 2500 urban areas.
Smell PGH
Smell PGH crowdsources smell reports so we all can better track how odors from pollutants travel through the air across the Pittsburgh region.
MindfulNest
We aim to provide effective and accessible tools to teach young children about their big feelings and how to regulate them.
EarthTime
EarthTime enables users to interact with visualizations of the Earth's transformation over time. EarthTime brings to life patterns of natural change and human impact.
BreatheCam
The Breathe Cams are high-resolution, zoomable, live camera feeds of Pittsburgh’s skyline, the Mon Valley and the Ohio River Valley to help you discover more about the air you breathe.
GigaPan
GigaPan helps bring distant communities and peoples together through images that have so much detail that they are, themselves, the objects of exploration, discovery, and wonder.
ESDR
ESDR is a free and open-source repository for environmental sensor data. Explore data in realtime to find patterns across different sensors in a region.
Message from me
Message from Me is designed for children to communicate with their families about their daily learning experiences through pictures and audio recordings.
NearBy Data
Continuation and expansion of a model for incorporating relevant data technologies into classroom curriculum, with the education expertise of West Liberty University and technology expertise of the CREATE Lab.
PGH EarthTime
EarthTime enables users to interact with visualizations and narratives over time and space. These stories focus on local themes in the Pittsburgh and Allegheny County region.
Plume Pittsburgh
CREATE Lab has developed PlumePGH to integrate crowd-sourced data from SmellPGH with NOAA weather models and air quality monitoring data from regulatory and citizen-owned networks.
Smell MyCity
Designed for a national audience, any community can use the Smell MyCity app to collectively document pollution odors in their neighborhood.
